PROGRAM

DAY 1

Windhoek Distance approx. 45 km; driving time approx. 1 hour Welcome to Namibia! Upon arrival at the airport, our guide will be waiting to take us to the hotel. If time permits, we can take the opportunity to explore the city with a leisurely stroll as the evening sets in. For dinner, optional, we have the opportunity to explore some of Namibia's main traditional dishes in one of the city's best and perhaps most iconic restaurants. Hotel

DAY 2

Windhoek – Namib Desert Distance approx. 200 km; driving time approx. 4 hours We start the day full of excitement for the adventure that lies ahead. Our private driver and guide takes us through the mountainous landscape south of Windhoek through one of the beautiful landscapes that leads us to the Namib-Naukluft region. A stop for lunch can be made in the small village of Solitaire, where we can taste the delicious local apple pie (both optional). From here, it is not far to our accommodation for the next two nights, at Agama Lodge. Feel free to explore the area on foot or take a sunset walk from the camp in the late afternoon (optional). Hotel

DAY 3

Namib Desert Early in the morning, we will set off on an exciting morning tour to Sossusvlei and the nearby Dead Vlei, where we will spend a few hours. Sossusvlei is home to the iconic red sand dunes of the Namib. The clear blue sky contrasts with the towering red sand dunes to make this one of Africa’s natural wonders and a photographer’s paradise. It is one of the top tourist destinations in all of Southern Africa and a must-see attraction when visiting Namibia. We will have plenty of time to enjoy some of the many highlights surrounding Sossusvlei: • Dune 45, the most photographed dune on the planet (situated 45km past Sesriem on the road to Sossusvlei) • Hiddenvlei, perfect for those seeking solitude in the desert • The tallest dune in the park, Big Daddy • Deadvlei, a photographer’s paradise, dotted with dead, blackened acacia trees, contrasting sharply with the white salty seabed and the intense orange of the dunes • Sesriem Canyon, a narrow gorge 1km long and up to 30m deep carved into the earth by the Tsauchab River millions of years ago. The name derives from the Afrikaans for the 6 lengths of rope that were needed to carry water from the gorge to the top in the old containers of old. Hotel

DAY 4

Namib Desert – Swakopmund Distance approx. 370km; driving time approx. 4 hours After a hearty breakfast we will drive through the Gaub and Kuiseb Gorges. The rivers we cross are usually dry, but if we are lucky we may see them flowing due to the recent rains inland. After driving through their canyons we will meet the Atlantic Ocean. Along the way we will stop at the Walvis Bay lagoon to see some flamingos up close. The road then takes us to Swakopmund, flanked by the ocean on our left and the desert on our right. The town of Swakopmund is our final destination for today and the rest of the afternoon can be spent as you wish. Talk to our guide as there is much to see and do here. The town also offers many good restaurants (optional). Hotel

DAY 5

Swakopmund – Skeleton Coast – Damaraland Distance approx. 470km; driving time approx. 6 hours Today we will continue our journey north along the Skeleton Coast. After visiting a shipwreck, we will head inland towards Damaraland, passing Brandberg, Namibia’s highest mountain at 2,573 metres. A visit to the Damara Living Museum is a must, just a short walk from our Adventure Camp. Hotel

DAY 6

Damaraland – Etosha National Park Distance approx. 370km; driving time approx. 4.5 hours You can visit Twyfelfontein, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Here you can see rock carvings made by hunter-gatherers who inhabited the area between 6,000 and 2,000 years ago. Our guide can show you around, away from the main tourist crowds. If you are interested in geology, then a visit to the Petrified Forest is recommended. Here you will find fossilised tree trunks that are approximately 260 million years old and learn how they got there. Also in the Petrified Forest you can see the Welwitschia mirabilis, a truly unique and fascinating plant that can live for well over a thousand years. Our next hotel is the Etosha Toshari Lodge, just south of the Etosha entrance gate – the wildlife highlight of this Namibian road trip. We can stop at the Himba Living Museum to learn about their way of life. Upon arrival, we enter the park and begin our safari. We will spend the afternoon exploring the park and observing wildlife as far as the eye can see. As the sun begins to set, we return to camp for a relaxing dinner. Hotel

DIA 7

Etosha National Park Today is another exciting day, and we want to wake up early to start our safari in Etosha National Park. Etosha is huge and we have the whole day to explore it and its diverse inhabitants. Elephants, lions, wildebeest, giraffes, hyenas and many different antelopes are just some of the animals we can encounter. If we are lucky, we may even see a cheetah or a leopard. They can be difficult to spot, but our guide has a keen eye and will help us identify animals we didn't even know were there. We can stop at Etosha Pan, which means “Great White Place” in Oshiwambo. You can easily see why, as this giant salt flat stretches out on the horizon. The silence is deafening. After much wildlife watching and many new impressions, we return to Toshari Lodge. Hotel

DIA 8

Etosha – Windhoek International Airport Distance approx. 450 km; driving time approx. 4.5 hours A relaxed start to the day awaits us and after a hearty breakfast, we begin our journey back to Windhoek. We will once again enjoy the wide open spaces of Namibia as we drive through the changing landscapes along the way, we can stop for lunch in Otjiwarongo or perhaps enjoy a bite to eat ‘biltong’, a local favourite (both optional). In Okahandja we can buy the last souvenirs at the local market. Upon entering Windhoek, our 8-day Namibia trip comes to an end, our guide will take us to Windhoek airport for the end of the tour. Namibia will certainly remain in our memories for many years to come.
